Once again, some words are presented which are spelled with only alphabetic signs. The signs in this exercise are grouped as they would be in an actual text. (The grouping is based on the same principles as that in Hieroglyphic writing).
The basic rules of order are that you read from right to left
and top to bottom. So in a word written
as
we read first the sign on the right (i)
then we have a group of two signs, which we read top to bottom (tn).
The whole word is transliterated as itn
and translated as "Aton," the Egyptian god of the sun disk.
